From 22 September to 1 October 2023, Strasbourg hosted the 16th edition of the Strasbourg European Fantastic Film Festival (FEFFS). For ten days, the city was filled with screenings, meetings and events centred around fantasy, science fiction and horror. Created in 2008, the FEFFS is now recognised throughout Europe. Each year, it offers a varied selection of films from around the world, with a focus on European productions.
Among the highlights of this year's festival was the open-air screening of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, which drew a large crowd to the Place du Château. It was an opportunity to (re)discover this classic film in an original setting. Inside the theatre, audiences were treated to a number of contemporary works. The film Vincent doit mourir, directed by Stéphan Castang, won the Octopus d'Or, the festival's top prize.
The Fantastic Village, located in the heart of the city, welcomed visitors, families and film professionals. It featured stands, entertainment, independent video games and exhibitions. This spot helps make the festival an accessible event, where you can simply come and stroll around or chat over a drink.
Director Terry Gilliam, this year's special guest, gave a highly anticipated masterclass. With humour and simplicity, he looked back on his career and his vision of cinema, offering a special moment for participants.
